The Importance of Self-Care as a Lash Artist

“Life is tough, but so are you”

I love my job. I love working as lash artist and I love making my clients look and feel beautiful.

However, working in the beauty industry can make me feel a little deflated at times. The most important aspect of my job is my clients. I make sure they feel pampered, I offer a compassionate ear and I take genuine interest in the ups and the down's of their lives. Building relationships with my clients is one of the best things about being a lash tech - but are we sometimes guilty of neglecting ourselves?

Throughout the week I help everyone get ready for their weekends, I compliment their new nails, their latest hairstyle, and help them decide on what to wear. I do this with my unwashed hair, grown out nails and weekend plans that involve a takeout whilst binge watching Netflix.

Sometimes it's important to take a step back and remember whilst we are working long hours pampering others, we need to remember to look after  ourselves! Some might think this is superficial or vain, but studies have shown that our self-perception of how attractiveness can link to our overall feelings of happiness. So firstly, book in that nail appointment or that long awaited hair salon visit - whatever it is that help you feel better.

And if you really can’t fit that in, try and take a few minutes out of the day for your mind. There are some really good apps out there, I love headspace. Once you’ve finished your day, try and meditate or even just have a nice bath and read a book! It really does make the difference.

It’s okay not to be okay. We are all so strong and running your own small business is such a hard thing to do! Always remember that, you’re smashing it girl.
